Equestrian drawing

"To express my passion for horses through the tip of my pencil and above all, to share it..."

Since my partner Marc has put our Belgian dray horse Ulysse to work in the forest, I've followed them and recorded their movements, looking for future compositions. A head which strains with effort, a gentle look in which the light is reflected, everything can be the subject to draw.

People often tell me that my drawings are in motion, that they're not frozen. It's true that I love to capture horses in action, however minute. I also pay a lot of attention to the eyes. When I meet a horse, they're the first thing I look at. You can see an awful lot in them! Big, calm eyes which follow you no matter what, without asking anything of you.

Then it's technique. The hand glides across the paper and draws shapes via an interplay of light and shade. The subject appears and the horse leaps out of the paper.

My drawings are based on photos, gathered from outings and visits to working sites and horse shows. I work using different media: graphite pencil, Indian ink, coloured pencils and acrylic.
